Steve Coffey has been an integral part of the western Canadian art and music scene for many years. He has curated traveling exhibitions, created large-scale public sculptures, taught college, and conducted many workshops and art residencies. His far-flung travels have taken him to places such as London, England and he has exhibited in Poznan City, Poland. Of the art in these major centers (along with favorites Berlin and Amsterdam), he speaks of being "visually exhausted and spiritually inspired" and he recalls the longing to return to the "intricate nuances and swirling beauty" of the Canadian landscape. He notes such influences as The Group Of Seven, Emily Carr and Alex Colville to name a few.
After finishing his formal training in 1990 (University of Regina, Master of Fine Arts.) Steve practiced formalism as a metal sculptor in Edmonton & Central Alberta. Eventually he gave in to his love of drawing and representation and was seduced by the immediacy and challenges of oil paint. He began exploring the medium full time in 1995. Steve has exhibited extensively and his paintings can be found in numerous private and public collections throughout North America and Europe.
He is also a well-known western Canadian singer-songwriter with a number of recordings that have received critical acclaim. He and his band "The Lokels" perform regularly and can be heard on the radio airwaves from commercial to college to frequencies in between. He has also dabbled in films, one of which was purchased by the arts and entertainment channel Bravo in 2007. Steve makes his home in Vulcan, Alberta with his partner Barbara and their two daughters Lydia and Grace.

On Nov. 7th, 2011 Leonard Brooks will be 100 years of age. This exhibition is in honour of his dedication to creating and supporting the arts.
Leonard has lived in San Miguel del Allende, Mexico since 1947. As an official Canadian Naval war artist in World War II, Brooks was highly praised for his work. Recognized worldwide as a premier painter, he has had numerous one-man shows in top commercial galleries and museums in Canada, the U.S., and at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
The author of eight books on art, Brooks has been recognized for his clear delineations of various styles of painting and collage. In Brooks' own words "Art has been my life long passion; a passion that has filled my life with joy and sorrow. But in the end it is our passions that determine who we are."
How wonderful it is that Brooks as a young boy of eight years old began his journey of creativity, and 92 years later continues to create beautiful collages and paintings in San Miguel de Allende.

Raymond Theriault's large scale oils of urban landscapes bring to mind more than the actual locations that he paints. They could be a scene in Calgary or a scene from Winnipeg, yet he brings to mind other places we have been. He brings order (harmony) to urban disorder. Theriault has dedicated most of his painting career to paintings these points in history.

There will be a Preview and Presale - Thursday March 17th, 2011 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
We are proud to announce a book launch and signing of The Art of John Snow by Elizabeth Herbert. Elizabeth will be at the gallery to sign during the Reception, March 19th Noon until Four.
The Art of John Snow analyzes the circumstances in which this extraordinary man created works of enormous expressive power, intellectual complexity, and nuanced beauty. Until now, Snow's work has been considered merely pleasing and decorative. Herbert's book convinces us that John Snow is an important artist.

| (1938 - 1934)
Thomas Mower Martin was one of a handful of artists responsible for the establishment of the Ontario Society of Artists, along with Marmaduke Matthews, F. F. Gagen and John A. Fraser. He organised the influential society in 1872, and eight years later became a charter member of the Royal Canadian Academy. As the first director of the Ontario Government art school in Toronto, he taught artists such as Lucius R. O'Brien, and was also responsible for initiating a life drawing class for professional artists.
One of Mower Martin's greatest triumphs was the illustration of Wilfred Campbell's 1907 book "Canada". Martin's numerous renderings of Canadian scenery, taken from original watercolours by him, reflect the text of Campbell in a compelling manner. Martin had previously published two books himself" "Artist's Letters from the Rockies" in 1889, and "Canada from the Artist's View" 1893-5.
He travelled via the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Rockies in 1887 and subsequent annual trips for another decade to paint the glorious mountain scenery.
